What’s in your bag?

As an IT specialist shuttling between 6 sites in Chicago, I have to find a way to carry everything. Sure I throw everything into my car, but I really try to minimize the amount of trips back to the car to get stuff out. The pictures below show what bag I use to accomplish that and what I load it up with:

I bought that Targus Sport Deluxe backpack a couple years ago to hold my Tecra M2 and glad I did. For one thing it was a backpack, didn’t look like a computer bag, and had all these compartments and pockets. And when I got my MBP, I didn’t have to get another bag because it had enough capacity to hold them both comfortably, along with my usual compliment of gear. Some people are surprised when I pull out a toothbrush or Tide to go from my bag.

Believe me, being in the field long enough helps you to realize that you should carry these items in case you cut yourself, ate a burger w/ onions during your lunch hour, or have a rendezvous avec quelqu’un after a long day at work. The only thing I dislike about the bag is the waist belt which I never use and have rolled up. If you click on the last picture, you can get the rundown of everything that I have either in my bag or on my person (usually just the iPod and phone).

One thing that I think all Chicago Loop workers should have is an umbrella that’s gust resistant. The one I got from Sharper Image may have been a little more expensive, but c’mon I live in the “Windy City.” It’s paid for itself many times over and kept me dry in a windy downpour.
